About Tabletop Generators
Tabletop Generators is a collection of 176 name and lore generators for tabletop roleplaying games. Every result is a complete character sketch: a name, how to pronounce it, what it means, a short backstory, a personality, and a plot hook your table can actually pull on — all written to fit together, not assembled from unrelated lists.
Who it's for
Game masters who need a believable NPC in the thirty seconds before the party talks to him. Players rolling a character who deserves better than "Bob the fighter." Writers who want a Mongolian patronymic or a drow House name that holds up to a reader who knows the difference. If a name has ever stopped your prep cold, this site is for you.
How it's different
The classic name sites give you ten names from a fixed word list and stop there. We go the other way: one result at a time, with depth. Each generator runs on a topic brief that took longer to research than most articles — real naming conventions, the right sourcebook lore, the difference between a high elf House name and a wood elf use-name. The prose around every generator is written and edited by hand. Nothing on this site is scraped from Wikipedia, another generator, or anyone else's work.
What we won't do
No accounts required to use anything. No paywalled results. No dark patterns — the favorites button saves to your own browser and the privacy policy is short because there is genuinely little to disclose. If that ever changes, it will say so in plain language before it happens.
Who runs it
The site is operated by an independent developer based in Sweden and has been running since 2026. It is a one-person project: the same person writes the generator briefs, edits the prose, and answers the email. Found a wrong pronunciation, a lore mistake, or a name that reads badly in a language you speak? Tell us via the contact page — corrections from people who know the culture or the canon are the fastest way this site gets better.
